James N. Thorp Elementary School

As the schools first Art Therapist, my roll was to find creative ways to improve student's social and emotional learning skills. When developing directives I structured actives around primary Illinois social/emotional learning standards: 

  1. Develop self-awareness and self-management skills to achieve school and life success

  2. Use social-awareness and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive relationships

  3.  Demonstrate decision-making skills and responsible behaviors in personal, school, and community contexts.

In addition, I also strived to develop directives that meet the needs and/or personal desires of each student.
